In 1992, George H.W. Bush was the President of the United States. When the Haitians attempted to land in America, the Bush Administration wouldn't allow it. They deported the Haitians. Many Americans opposed what the Bush Administration did, including Arthur Ashe.
On September 9, 1992, Ashe was arrested for protesting the treatment of Haitian refugees. He was so determined to help that he was willing to sacrifice his time and freedom to make an impact. This happened five months before Ashe passed away.
